POLICE are making a fresh appeal for information about the circumstances surrounding the death of a 32-year-old man whose body was found in the Channel off Dover earlier this year.

Italian national Vincenzo Ruggiero boarded a Eurolines coach bound for London in Amsterdam on February 26 which would have travelled via a cross-Channel ferry from Calais to Dover.

His body was discovered in the Channel less than a month later on March 13. Personal items belonging to him were found on a cliff top one mile north east of Dover in August.

His last known address was in Rotterdam. Det Inspector Peter Ward said: “We are anxious to know where he might have stayed in Dover between February 26 and March 13. We also need to know how he made his way to the cliff top, and we would like to hear from any taxi drivers and hoteliers who may recognise the photographs.”

An inquest is due to start on Tuesday December 3. Anyone with information is asked to contact Det Insp Ward on Dover (01304) 240055.
