Knifeman flees Shepherdswell Co-op after robbery attempt

A masked knifeman fled the scene after threatening staff at a supermarket in an attempted robbery.

Police were called to the Co-op in Eythorne Road in Shepherdswell, near Dover, at around 8.15pm yesterday.

A man is said to have entered the shop and demanded cash from the till while wielding an eight-inch kitchen knife.

But the shop assistant refused and activated an alarm. The suspect left the shop empty-handed and ran towards the A2.

A member of staff at the Co-op confirmed no-one had been hurt, and that the matter was being dealt with by police.

The suspect was white, 18 to 25 years old, 5ft 8in, slim and had a Liverpool accent.

He was wearing black clothing including gloves and a balaclava that covered his face.
