Traffic was yesterday at a standstill on the A20 approach to Dover.
The tailbacks were due to speed restrictions and traffic lights at the entrance to the town. It affected port bound and usual traffic.
One motorist, speaking on Radio Kent, said his car has been stationary for 30 minutes.
Traffic reached the Hawkinge turn off past Folkestone.
Drivers heading to Dover were advised to find an alternative route.
