BBC Question Time filmed at Cruise Terminal 1 at Dover Western Docks

A lively debate is expected as Question Time airs tonight from Dover.

The topical panel programme hosted by David Dimbleby is being filmed at Cruise Terminal 1 at Dover Western Docks this evening.

Among the panellists are Secretary of State for Transport, Chris Grayling, Shadow Secretary of State for Brexit, Keir Starmer, Irish MEP and vice president of the European Parliament, Mairead McGuinness, presenter at Russia Today Afshin Rattansi and Hollywood actor and SNP supporter Brian Cox.

Mr Starmer, the Shadow Brexit Secretary, previously came to Dover to express fears of delays for freight traffic coming to the port if there is not a proper deal for the UK’s exit of the EU.

The programme tours the country and this is its fourth visit to Dover, the last one being in October 2015.

Presenter David Dimbleby said: "I am very much looking forward to bringing Question Time to Dover once again.

“What really matters is that we have a lively audience who want to speak their mind.

“It’s a chance for Dover to get its voice heard not just by politicians, but right across the UK.”

The BBC One programme began in 1979 when it was chaired by Sir Robin Day.

Mr Dimbleby has been presenter since 1994.

The programme hears views from representatives of the government of the day, the opposition, other political parties, political commentators and well-known public figures.

There are about 100 people in the audience, selected to ensure political balance.

Question Time is on BBC One at 10.45pm.
