Police appeal for witnesses after man dies in accident in Townwall Street, Dover

An 80-year-old man has died after being hit by a car in Dover's Townwall Street.

The accident, which involved a silver Peugeot 206, happened on the A20 just before 6.30pm on Saturday.

The road was closed for several hours while investigations took place.

Today, the ambulance service confirmed the man died at the scene.

A spokesman said: "Efforts to revive the man at the scene were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene."

Police have launched an appeal for any witnesses to come forward.

A spokesman said: "An 80-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

"He has not been formally identified and our enquiries continue.

"Officers from the Kent Police serious collision investigation unit are appealing for anyone who saw the collision or the car or the pedestrian in the moments leading up to the collision to make contact."
