Dover 3 Barrow 1 - match report

Three goals in 24 first half minutes ensured Dover got their season firmly back on track against Barrow in the Vanarama National League.

Ricky Miller's left foot rocket was the pick of the trio, after Ricky Modeste's 11th minute opener and Richard Orlu's first of the season had done the early damage.

Looking to end a run of three successive defeats, Chris Kinnear's men proved too powerful for the visiting Cumbrians, and provided the Crabble faithful with plenty to warm them up on a raw, windy afternoon. the coldest of the season so far.

England C manager Paul Fairclough was among the crowd - having presented Dover defender Sean Raggett with his international cap before the game - and must have impressed with the quality of Dover's finishing.

Stefan Payne went close twice early on, before setting up Modeste to score his second of the season and put the Whites in front with a neat finish after 11 minutes.

Defender Richard Orlu doubled the lead eight minutes later, his first of the campaign, with a firm finish from the edge of the box past the diving Barrow keeper Joel Dixon.

Miller made it 3-0 10 minutes before half-time, producing a powerful left-foot finish from the edge of the box, which seemed to take a deflection, before going in off the underside of the bar.

Barrow, with manager Darren Edmondson's position under review by chairman Paul Casson needed a response, but they rarely tested keeper Andy Rafferty, apart from one effort by Andy Cook who forced the Whites keeper into a full length diving save.

Cook was left fuming after having a goal disallowed, before Barrow were reduced to 10-men with 22 minutes left, defender Niall Cowperthwaite shown a straight red for a lunge at Sam Magri.

He earned a booking before pulling one back after 76 minutes - slotting the ball home from close range.

Boss Chris Kinnear sent on Toby Ajala and Tom Murphy - the latter replacing Modeste, the latter booked along with Barrow defender Simon Grand after the pair squared up as the Dover man walked off.
