Dover Athletic boss Chris Kinnear believes the Whites have the experience needed to come through the Vanarama National League play-offs

Chris Kinnear says Dover go into the end-of-season play-offs with the best team the club have ever had and plenty of vital experience.

The Whites will contest their third play-off campaign in four seasons – and fourth in six years – next week, with their opponents to be determined on what’s sure to be a dramatic final day on Saturday.

Last weekend’s 1-1 draw at Kidderminster ensured a top-five finish – the highest in the club’s history – and meant they will be in the play-off semi-finals even if they lose at home to runners-up and potential play-off opponents Forest Green at Crabble (5.30pm).

Kinnear said: “The fact this is the highest ever finish means this is probably the best team Dover have ever had.

“We have been to play-offs in three of the past four seasons and we are used to them now.”

If Dover lose and fifth-placed Braintree beat relegation-threatened Altrincham at home, then Whites will host Forest Green on Wednesday night (7pm), with the return in Gloucestershire on Saturday, May 7 (7.30pm).

Should both Dover and Grimsby avoid defeat, then those two sides will face-off on Thursday (7pm) and Sunday, May 8 (3pm). Dover would need to better Grimsby’s result at Tranmere on Saturday to claim third-place and home advantage in the second leg.

The only way Dover could face Braintree is in the event of a Grimsby loss, a Braintree win and at least a draw for Dover.

Despite the permutations, Kinnear claimed: “It honestly doesn’t matter if we come third, fourth or fifth, or if we’re home or away in the second leg.

“I think the chairman would probably like to have the home leg second but for us it’s just two games. We came fifth in the year we got promoted to this league and played away. It doesn’t faze us.”

Kinnear said he had no idea whether he would rest first-teamers ahead of the play-off games, adding: “We’ll have a sit down, the coaches, physios, scouts and me tonight (Thursday).

“I don’t know the team I will put out, it has crossed my mind to rest people but I have not decided anything yet. We are in good form and you want to keep that going ideally. We’ll just have to see how it goes.”
