Dover Athletic boss Chris Kinnear describes stunning winning goal as something Cristiano Ronaldo would have been proud of

Dover manager Chris Kinnear has seen a lot of goals in his long career but admits the one he saw his midfielder Nicky Deverdics score against Woking on Tuesday would take some beating.

Kinnear's side are just three wins away from playing in the FA Trophy final after beating Vanarama Conference rivals Woking 1-0 in the third round replay.

And it took a stunning 25-yard free kick from Deverdics in the 60th minute to decide the tie.

Kinnear described the goal as ‘ridiculous’.

He said: “Cristiano Ronaldo would have been proud of it. The way it (the ball) dipped was simply unbelievable.

“I thought it was going to go over to be honest but wow, when it went in , well, no goalkeeper in the world would have stopped it.

“Nicky does have a sweet left foot but that goal was ridiculous.”

But does Deverdics work on taking free-kicks in training? Well, not according to Kinnear.

He said: “I haven’t seen him doing it. He must do it on his time off.”

As for Deverdics, the former Newcastle United trainee said of his wonder goal: “I knew I’d caught it sweet but not that sweet.”
