Dover Athletic striker Ricky Miller denies he turned down deadline day move to Bristol Rovers but is intent on helping Dover's promotion push

Ricky Miller has set his sights on scoring the goals to get Dover back into the National League play-offs after the transfer window closed with him still at Crabble.

The 27-year-old was the subject of frenzied speculation before the Football League deadline day business wrapped up at 11pm on Tuesday but despite reports of six-figure bids for the former Luton man, Whites chairman Jim Parmenter did not receive an offer he deemed acceptable for the league's leading scorer with 27 goals this season and 32 in all competitions.

After being bombarded with messages from Bristol Rovers fans hoping he would replace Bristol City-bound Matty Taylor on Tuesday, rumours spread online that Miller had turned down a switch to the Memorial Ground in favour of waiting until his contract expires in the summer.

Miller took to twitter on Wednesday morning to say: "Our chairman never accepted any offer for me. (It was) nothing to do with me turning anything down.

"I'm not one to throw my toys out of the pram."

He added: "Hopefully look forward to play-offs and plenty more goals."

Dover manager Chris Kinnear revealed the banter had been flying at Dover’s Tuesday evening training session and revealed: “Jack Parkinson asked him if Man United had been in touch yet.

"I said actually we got a call from a guy that could have been Jose Mourinho but I couldn’t understand his accent so I hung up.

“It was that kind of a night.”

He added: "Rick has not made a fuss, he’s been the same Ricky Miller he always has. He’s not tried to push for a move, he’s not really talked about it at all to be honest.”

Peterborough, Gillingham and Grimsby were all linked with moves for Miller during the transfer window, while Dover's promotion rivals Lincoln and Forest Green Rovers are both understood to have approached Dover, only to be rebuffed by Mr Parmenter who vowed to only sell Miller for an 'extraordinary' offer and to 'an established Football League club.'
