Dover Athletic winger Tom Murphy happy to repay boss Chris Kinnear's faith with scintillating run of form in front of goal

Dover Athletic have a rare Saturday off this week due to scheduled league opponents Wrexham’s FA Trophy involvement.

Flying winger Tom Murphy wishes it wasn’t so – he wants to keep playing.

And why wouldn’t he? Murphy has scored an impressive seven goals in his past eight Vanarama Conference games.

The 24-year-old, who spent two years on the books at Gillingham without playing a league game, said: “Playing regularly has given me so much confidence.

“And that’s reflected in my play. I am not afraid to try different things and I am really enjoying it.

“I know a day off would do us good because we have played such a lot of late due to our FA Cup and FA Trophy runs and our league commitments, but I just wish we had a game this week.

“I know there are some tired legs in the squad but I feel fine. I feel great to be honest.”

Murphy has scored some stunning goals in his scintillating run of form in front of goal, including a spectacular individual one at FC Halifax a couple of weeks ago.

He got the ball 25 yards out and dribbled his way towards goal before firing home low from just inside the box.

And Murphy is adamant it had nothing to do with the luminous green boots he was wearing for the first time.

He said: “They (his boots) are a bit bright because I usually wear plain black ones but they tore and I then found out they don’t make them anymore. So I got these ones and I copped a bit stick over them but scoring goals is not about what colour boots you wear.

“Again, it’s a confidence thing and the gaffer (Chris Kinnear) has instilled plenty of that in me and I am happy to repay his faith in me.”
