Dover Athletic boss Chris Kinnear has added to his attacking options at Crabble by signing winger James Caton.

The 23-year-old spent the first half of this season playing for Dover's Vanarama National League rivals Southport.

Caton chalked up 24 games during that time and played in Dover’s 1-0 win at the Merseyrail Community Stadium last September. His last appearance was in the 3-2 home win over Wrexham on New Year’s Day.

Widnes-born Caton began his career at Blackpool for whom he made two appearances in the Championship and he had loan spells at Accrington Stanley and Chester before signing for Shrewsbury in 2014.

Further loan spells followed at Southport, Mansfield and Wrexham and he spent the second-half of last season on loan at Lincoln City, scoring three goals in 12 games. He played for the Imps in their 4-1 defeat at Crabble last March.
