A2 London Road in Faversham closed due to lorry fire

Part of the A2 was closed for several hours after a rubbish lorry caught fire.

Emergency services shut London Road in Faversham, between Ospringe Road and the A251 Ashford Road.

The blaze reportedly broke out near The Abbey School just before 6.30am.

The dustcart was destroyed in the fire, with a witness describing it as a "black shell".

The road was partially closed until around 11am while the lorry was recovered.

A fire service spokesman said: "We attended a bin lorry fire in London Road, Ospringe.

"Two fire engines attended and put out the fire using a main jet and a hose reel, with water from a hydrant.

"Kent Police also attended for traffic management. The fire is being treated as accidental."
