Police and ambulance crews attended the crash at the Boughton Bypass at about 3.30pm.

The collision led to the A2 being shut London-bound from A28 Wincheap to M2 J7, near the Brenley Corner roundabout.

At the time of the closure, a National Highways spokesperson said “due to the nature of the incident” police had to carry out collision investigation work, “with the road expected to remain closed for several hours more”.

Despite the efforts of paramedics the motorcyclist, a man aged in his 50s, was declared dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.

Enquiries are being carried out by the police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, which is urging motorists who were in the area to check for any dashcam footage, which may assist the investigation.
