M2 crash closes coastbound stretch between A251 at Faversham and Brenley Corner

Police are appealing for witnesses after a motorcyclist died in a crash with a van near Faversham.

It left part of the M2 between junctions 6 and 7 closed for more than five hours while officers carried out a forensic investigation into the circumstances.

The victim, a man in his 20s and from Medway, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed.

Police were called to the scene at 8.20am and an air ambulance was scrambled.

There were eight-mile tailbacks as motorists got caught up in the aftermath and the coastbound carriageway eventually reopened at 2.30pm.

Officers had to temporarily hold traffic on the London-bound carriageway to allow the air ambulance to land for the accident on the opposite carriageway.

Police would like to hear from anyone who may have footage caught on a dashcam or other device that may assist their investigation.

On Tuesday, a crash involving a car transporter and two lorries shut the same stretch for about 10 hours.

Anyone who witnessed the collision or the moments leading up to it are asked to call the Serious Collision Investigation Unit on 01622 798538.
