Rail services between Faversham and Sittingbourne stopped as person dies after being hit by train

A person has died after being hit by a train.

Rail services running between Sittingbourne and Faversham were stopped as emergency services responded to the incident this afternoon.

A spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed officers were called to Faversham station at 1.27pm following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

“Paramedics also attended however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene,” they said.

“The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Services have resumed running between Sittingbourne and Faversham but they are likely to be delayed, altered or cancelled as Southeastern works to get trains back on schedule.

Commuters have been told they can use their tickets on Arriva Fastrack B buses Stagecoach buses 4, 5, 6, 8, Loop and Triangle London Underground between our London Terminals High-Speed trains via Canterbury West.

The ambulance service and Southeastern have been contacted for further comment.
