A late schedule change has been a blessing in disguise for Faversham fighter Alex Branson-Cole.

The roofer had been due to be involved in a show last weekend at London’s York Hall but, instead, he will face Jordan Latimer at The Brentwood Centre this Saturday.

“It’s pretty cool,” he said. “In a way, it’s like a blessing in disguise because it’s a bigger platform.

“It’s a big arena and it’s somewhere where I haven’t boxed before so I’m looking forward to it.”

Branson-Cole has had to contend with many cancellations and rearranged shows since he turned professional two years ago.

He said: “At first, I thought ‘Oh, I’ve got bad luck’, but I do hear it a lot in professional boxing.

“There was a bit of uncertainty but, with the experience that I have of shows being cancelled, I got on another show as soon as possible.”

Provided his show doesn’t again fall victim to a late cancellation, Branson-Cole will look to respond from his first defeat as a professional last November to Ethan George.

He admitted: “It’ll be good to get back going again after my loss and get cracking.

“It was a bit hard to get motivated again after a loss.

“It sort of feels like you had been training for nothing. But I’ve got myself back in the gym.

“I’m looking forward to putting on a show for everyone who is coming.”

Branson-Cole still expects plenty of fans from Faversham to travel to Essex to support him despite the late switch in venue.

“Sadly, some people cannot come,” he said. “They can’t get a babysitter or have other plans with it being on a different weekend - but that’s very understandable.

“There’s still a lot of people that are coming. My missus (Lilia) called up the coach company, Chalkwell, and they have changed my booking over to this weekend. That was very good and they have always been very good with me.

“A lot of things have changed. But the support is still there and I’m very grateful for the support because, without this little following I have got from a small town, I couldn’t do it.”

Victory could give Branson-Cole a strong platform for the rest of the year.

He added: “That’s what I’m planning on doing.

“To be honest, I plan that every year. But there’s always something that gets in the way! But I’ve got the same goal and the same mindset.

“Any obstacles that come in my way, I’m just going to keep trying to get past them and have a big 2024.”
