There is a quiet confidence about Faversham boss Ray Turner after the club’s most impressive week of pre-season so far.

Town beat Clapton and Aveley in a three-team tournament on Saturday before holding Vanarama National League South newcomers Maidstone to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday night.

Seven goals scored in the three games and only two conceded are stats which suggest Faversham are gearing up nicely for what they hope will be another crack at promotion in Ryman League Division 1 South.

Turner said: "It’s easy to go overboard in pre-season and only time will tell whether we’ve got it right but it feels like pre-season has gone well.

"I was pleased with the two wins on Saturday and we continued that on Tuesday against a strong Maidstone side. We matched them and we’re heading in the right direction.

"I’ll reserve judgement but we’re on track. It’s been a relatively short pre-season for us and knowing there were only five weeks from the start of it until our first league game has helped keep the enthusiasm levels up.

"I’ve learnt a few lessons from the last time we got in the play-offs (two years ago). The boys look hungry."
