Faversham Town manager Sammy Moore tells his team not to get bored of winning ahead of home game against Punjab United

Sammy Moore has delivered a message to Faversham’s in-form squad: Don’t get bored of winning.

The ambitious Lilywhites were always expected to challenge for the Southern Counties East Premier Division title this season and five straight league wins leaves them living up to that billing.

They were dealt consecutive early-season setbacks at Corinthian and Lydd but have responded well since and are now fourth.

“I said it after we’d had those two difficult losses, you don’t win leagues in August and don’t lose titles in August,” said Town manager Moore.

“We’re just quietly going about our business at the moment.

“Every game is an opportunity to get three points. We won’t be looking at the table. We’ll just tick them off as they come.

“Like I said to our boys: Don’t get bored of winning. It’s a good habit and we’re starting to get that.”

Their latest win was a 2-1 home triumph against early basement boys Kennington on Tuesday which came thanks to goals from strikers Warren Mfula and Stefan Payne.

Moore said: “It doesn’t matter if we win 2-1, 3-1, 4-1 or 5-1, if we get our noses in front, we need to see the game out.

“We’re going to come up against teams like that. They raise their game at a nice stadium in front of a big crowd. They had a gameplan and were quite brave in how they played.

“They’re probably the hardest-working team that we have come up against.

“But on another night, we could have eight or nine. We weren’t clinical in front of goal whereas, the last three or four games, we were and saw teams off.

“We got the second but couldn’t see them off. But fair play to them.”

Winger Ashley Miller put in a player-of-the-match performance which saw him claim two assists.

“Miller was a threat all night,” admitted Moore. “He’s been outstanding in the last month or so.

“He’s a really good asset. If we get the ball to him, he’s got pace to burn.

“His delivery is fantastic and, when he goes past a player, he has the game understanding to pick someone out.”

Among the Town substitutes to come up against Kennington was attacking midfielder England Kurti who had caught the eye against them earlier this month in a 5-2 success at Sutton Athletic.

Moore said: “He was a really good player and caused us problems on that day. He’ll add something different.”

Punjab United, another team with promotion ambitions, visit Salters Lane this Saturday.

“It’s going to be a tough game,” said Moore.

“We’ve had them watched so we know exactly what we’ll be coming up against.

“But we’re at home on our pitch and in front of our fans.

“We’re looking to get three points again and to make it six straight league wins.”
