Faversham boss Ray Turner is excited about the second half of the Ryman League Division 1 South season

Faversham Town have turned their season around and boss Ray Turner is excited about what the second half of the campaign holds for his young side.

Tuesday night’s 5-1 win at Molesey was the Lilywhites’ best league result of 2015/16 and it lifted them back into the Ryman League, Division 1 South play-off places.

They won just one of nine games during a barren run through September and October but Turner’s men are now unbeaten in seven and have won five of their last six, scoring 16 goals.

He said: “These are exciting times, considering where we were six weeks ago. To find ourselves back in the top-five is a magnificent achievement by the players.

“It feels like we’re back on track. We’ve still got a bit of catching up to do but I’m happy to have 40 points at the halfway stage of the season considering the difficulties we’ve had.

“This is a fairly straightforward job when you’re winning but no-one likes going on a run of defeats. That’s when a manager has to get his head down and solve a few problems.

“We weren’t playing too badly but we were struggling to score goals and we were losing games narrowly. We were dominating but we found ourselves on the wrong end of a few 1-0 defeats and we lost a bit of confidence.

“I’m self-analytical anyway and I’m always looking to improve. It hits you and the players because something you thought would be working isn’t.

“You either show players you’re not too sure what to do or you come out and solve it together.

“From a manager’s point of view, that’s the time when you’ve got to show what you’re about. We stuck together as a group and things have turned round.

“This is a crucial month. Historically, if you can get up there by the time it goes to playing once a week, you’ve got more of a chance of staying there.”
