Folkestone: Boxing Day Dip details

Swimmers are set to plunge into the icy waves of the Channel today all in the name of charity.

The Sunny Sands in Folkestone is one of three east Kent towns to host the traditional Boxing Day Dip and sees hundreds of people brave the chilly conditions in fancy dress costumes.

The dips also take place in Dover and Deal.

The Stade in Folkestone becomes a popular viewing platform for thousands of people as the participants launch themselves into the sea.

Those interested can register their place at the Mariners on The Stade from 11.15am in preparation for the dip at 1pm.

There will be a fancy dress judging competition on the beach 15 minutes before costumes become soaked.

Medals will be awarded to all dippers as many do it to raise money for different charities.

The sponsorship money is passed onto the organisers, The Lions Club of Folkestone, who hand it over to the designated charities.
