A Folkestone couple have won big on the EuroMillions lottery

A Folkestone couple are celebrating after winning a whopping £315.219.50 on the lottery – just in time for Christmas.

Michael and Sheila Yeomans say they are still in shock after matching five numbers and one Lucky Star on the EuroMillions.

The life-changing ticket won on the Tuesday, December 2 draw .

Delivery driver Michael, 59, said: “I don’t tend to check my tickets straight away, I like to keep that ‘I could be a winner’ excitement going for just a bit longer.

“On this occasion I waited until Thursday when I checked the numbers on the TV.

“I quickly saw that my first line was no good but when I was working through the second line I couldn’t believe that I’d matched five numbers, and then a Lucky Star.

“I shouted to Sheila to come and have a look, and when we saw how much it was neither of us believed what we were seeing.”

With the pair in complete shock and not trusting their judgment, they called their eldest son and asked him to pop around to check something.

Thinking Michael had an IT issue, Damian was as shocked as his parents to discover they had actually won the lottery.

Michael added: “While Damian was whooping about with joy we just sat there in shock like lemons. I have to say, we’ve been a bit like that ever since! We haven’t had any celebratory meals or wild parties but we have shared the news with our four children, although our youngest son couldn’t believe it until he saw the ticket with his own eyes.

“While I’m pretty calm about it all, I get a bit alarmed when I think that for a couple of days I was getting about Folkestone with that ticket, worth more than three hundred thousand, in my wallet!”

With the win all confirmed and the money in the bank, Michael can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

He was made redundant three years ago and now works as a driver while sheolia is a support worke for children with learning difficulties.

Despite the lucky windfall Michael and Sheila are not making any frivolous purchases.

They don’t plan to upgrade their Christmas plans and have no immediate plans to move home but the win will enable them to do all the work they had thought would take years to complete.

A large proportion of the win has already been allocated to investments to provide peace of mind for the couple for the future, although there may be a few treats.

Michael said: “I’ve never been abroad and Sheila has always wanted to visit Canada so we will certainly put that on the list. She also wants to get a dog, so maybe when we come back from the Canada trip we could think about buying a nice little four-legged friend.

“While I’m really excited about the future, and eternally grateful to Lady Luck for this whopper of an early Christmas present, I have always worked hard and really know the value of money so I’m not planning on frittering it away.

“That said, with four children and eleven grandkids, we could get through it pretty quickly if we weren’t careful!”
