Kent County Council Highways posted on X, formerly known as Twitter, asking drivers to use an alternative route.

It said: “Folkestone, A20 Coastbound: The A20 is currently closed coastbound at M20 J13 due to an incident.

“Please use an alternative route.”

The accident is understood to have happened at about 9am this morning, with heavy traffic on the motorway as a result.

This has since cleared after the route was reopened.

There were also delays of up to an hour on Dfds Seaways between Dover and Dunkerque due to high winds.

The emergency services have been contacted for comment on the incident.
