Tribute to Gwendoline Copping, 94, who died after mobility scooter crash in Sandgate Road, Folkestone

The family of a 94-year-old woman killed in a mobility scooter crash have paid a moving tribute to her.

Gwendoline Copping died after her scooter collided with a Land Rover Freelander last Friday on Sandgate Road, Folkestone.

A statement from her daughter said: "She was a well liked and respected lady living independently at Homepine House for 13 years.

"She participated in events at the flats running a Painting for Pleasure morning each week.

"She was an inspiration to them and encouraged people to just have a go.

"Several members had never considered painting as a pastime before and are now accomplished artists.

"She attended the sessions of keep fit each week; afternoon tea and chats and line dancing.

"She shopped most days, either walking or riding on her scooter (depending on the weather) to the town.

“She enjoyed lunching either alone or with her younger brothers only 93 and 91 who visited regularly or with friends and family.

"She was never happier than being with her family adoring her daughter, granddaughter and great-grandchildren."

Ms Copping was involved in the collision just before 2.30pm near the junction with Manor Road.
