Homes were evacuated after a car fire spread to a garage.

The blaze happened in Gray Close in Hawkinge, near Folkestone, yesterday afternoon.

Firefighters were at the scene for more than four hours, and evacuated nearby homes as a precaution.

No injuries were reported, and residents were allowed home once the scene was safe.

A fire service spokesman added: “We were called after a car fire spread to a residential garage.

“Four fire engines attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the flames using hose reel jets.

“No injuries were reported, and the cause is not yet known.”
