Suspect charged following alleged rape near Folkestone

A suspect has been charged after a teenage woman was allegedly raped in a rural layby.

The 19-year-old victim has told detectives she was attacked on Beachborough, a country road between the A20 and Etchinghill outside Folkestone, in the early hours of Sunday.

Peter Wrotchford, of Ashley Avenue in Folkestone, was arrested on Monday morning and subsequently charged with rape and three sexual assault offences.

The 46-year-old appeared before Folkestone Magistrates' Court yesterday and was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on October 10.

Police are now appealing for anyone with information to come forward.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: "Officers are keen to hear from anyone who may have information regarding the incident but has not yet spoken to police.

"In particular they would like to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard a woman talking to the driver of a white vehicle in Tram Road, Folkestone, at about 4am on Sunday."
