A mother-to-be has told how her unborn baby was lucky to survive after she was involved in a terrifying town centre car crash.

Pregnant Amelia Hills-Pike, 26, was in the passenger side when her partner’s car collided with another vehicle, sending them soaring six feet into the air.

Their Ford Fiesta is now a write-off.

Partner Matthew Evans, 47, was coming off Tontine Street onto Dover Road, Folkestone when the crash with a red Volkswagen Golf happened yesterday morning.

Carer Miss Hills-Pike, who is seven months pregnant, suffered bruising to her body while Mr Evans, registered disabled, suffered back pain and whiplash.

The other driver reportedly came out unscathed.

Miss Hills-Pike, who is expecting a little boy, said she is apprehensive about getting in a car again.

She added: “I’m extremely lucky my baby wasn’t badly hurt.

“It’s all a bit of a blur, but I remember our car going up about six foot in the air.

“My partner managed to veer the car back onto its wheels - if he didn’t we would have ended up on the roof.

“Traffic calming measures need to be put up on that junction.

“I want to thank the emergency services, they were all on the scene within 20 minutes, the first police car must have been there in five minutes.”

Both were assessed and treated at the scene before being taken to William Harvey Hospital by road ambulance.

Firefighters freed Mr Evans while the road was closed at the junction with St Michael’s Street until around 1.30pm.

Miss Hills-Pike continued: “The passenger side of the car is completely smashed up and it’s a write-off.

“There was all of this fluid pouring from underneath the car, I don’t know what it was."

Kent Police is investigating the incident.
