A cafe owner is calling for the return of a sign that used to hang outside his premises.

The Googies Burger sign, a cartoon burger that hung in chains outside the cafe, used to welcome customers to Googies Art Cafe in Rendezvous Street, Folkestone.

It disappeared at around midnight on Wednesday, February 5.

Owner Keith Holland is calling for help in finding the sign before the police get involved.

He has offered two free meals to anyone who finds the sign.

Mr Holland said: “We are hoping someone picked it up and took it home for safe keeping with the intention of handing it back. We’re looking at the better side of human nature.

“We’ve not contacted the police.”

A reward poster has been made and posted on Facebook and Twitter, asking residents to help see the “villainous burger” returned back to its chains outside the cafe.

The sign was designed by one of the cafe’s baristas – artist Dave Boughton, who is also known as El Davo. It was made by Quintessential Folkestone, based in the Old High Street.

Dave said: “A great deal of effort went into creating it. Making another one isn’t as easy as you might think.”
