Folkestone Invicta boss Neil Cugley will have to let two players go if he wants to make another new signing

Folkestone will have to release two players if Neil Cugley makes another new signing.

Budget constraints are such that Invicta boss Cugley can’t increase the size of his squad between now and the start of the season.

As things stand, Folkestone will go into the new campaign with almost the same group which won Ryman League Division 1 South so comfortably in 2015-16.

"They all deserve a chance, don’t they?" Cugley said. "You don’t win a league by 24 points and then not give these lads a chance.

"They’ll all be given a chance up to the beginning of the season and then, if we have to look elsewhere, we will.

"The situation is that to bring a player in, you’re most likely to let two go just because of the expense of bringing in players that will make a difference.

"Other clubs will be doing exactly the same. We’ll be looking and they’ll be looking.

"It’s a fact that if we want to bring a good player in, two will have to go out of our squad."

Folkestone will again be without Harry Smith for Saturday’s pre-season friendly at home to Concord Rangers (1pm).

The striker, who’s being monitored by Millwall and Gillingham, has a back problem which will keep him sidelined until August.

Invicta lost 5-4 at Ashford on Saturday before going down 6-1 at home to Maidstone in Josh Vincent's testimonial on Tuesday night.
