Lydd's Bradley Ray regains lead in British Superbikes Championship and sets new lap record at Cadwell Park

It was a memorable Bank Holiday weekend for Lydd's Bradley Ray in the British Superbikes Championship at Cadwell Park.

Rich Energy OMG Racing Yamaha's Ray has a 13-point lead over McAMS Yamaha's Jason O'Halloran with four races remaining after a win, two second places and a new lap record.

Ray rewrote the history books after a scorching final sector to take a stunning pole position in the one-lap shootout with the fastest ever two-wheeled lap of Cadwell Park in 1min25.457sec.

The new record was a sign of things to come with three successive podium finishes.

“It’s been a fantastic weekend with the race win and two second places," he said.

"It’s not an easy track to race and there have been no other Yamahas on the podium so I’m super happy about that for me and the RICH Energy OMG Racing Yamaha team as we seem to have made the difference this weekend.

"It hasn’t been easy but it’s nice to close the gap on Jason on podium credits and good to be back in the championship lead. I’m looking forward to Snetterton with the Yamaha R1 and the package we have and to be fighting for more wins there.”

Sunday's 12-lap sprint race was red-flagged due to a nasty incident on the Mountain section involving four riders, but when the lights went out a second time Ray took charge and controlled the gap back to the chasing pack for his fourth victory of the season and five podium credits.

On Monday Ray and BMW's Danny Buchan battled for the race two victory, Ray unable to get past the SYNETIQ Motorrad racer, and it was the same story in race three, with Ray's title rival O'Halloran finishing eighth and ninth.

The next round is at Snetterton on September 9-11.
