Pensioner, 72, who once lived in Rochester, found dead under patio as Gravesend man arrested in Algarve, Portugal

A Kent man has been arrested after the body of his 72-year-old partner was found buried under a patio in Portugal, according to reports.

National newspapers reported the discovery on Wednesday morning as officers drilled through slabs of concrete to reach the dead woman.

Portuguese police yesterday confirmed a 59-year-old man, named Nigel Jackson from Gravesend according to newspaper reports, had been arrested on suspicion of murder.

The alleged victim has been named as Brenda Davidson, who is thought to have previously lived with Mr Jackson in Rochester.

A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We can confirm the detention of a British national in Algarve, Portugal on January 7. We have offered consular assistance."
