Billy Treays, of Thistle Road, Gravesend, burgled home in same road

A bungling burglar tried to escape from police in a stolen car after burgling a house in the road he lives in.

Billy Treays, 18, of Thistle Road, Gravesend, burgled a home in the same street on Saturday.

He then drove away in a Vauxhall Astra belonging to the victim.

Treays failed to stop when asked to do so by police so officers gave chase.

The pursuit ended in nearby Roehampton Crescent and the burglar disappeared.

But he wasn't able to evade capture for long and yesterday police arrested him at his home, not far from the crime scene.

Treays was remanded into custody and earlier today he appeared at Medway Magistrates’ Court where he pleaded guilty to burglary, aggravated vehicle taking, dangerous driving and using a motor vehicle without third party insurance.

He was remanded again to appear at Maidstone Crown Court later in August, on a date to be confirmed.
