Kent Police hunt vandals after cars damaged in 'acid' attacks across Swanscombe

This is how a car has been left severely damaged after being targeted in one of a string of suspected acid attacks.

Vandals are being hunted after throwing corrosive liquid over several vehicles in the Swanscombe area, leaving the paintwork blistered.

A silver Vauxhall Corsa was left with up to £2,000 of damage when it was targeted in The Grove - and even had sugar poured into its petrol tank.

The liquid was poured over the car sometime between 7.30pm on August 9 and 6.30am the following day.

The following night, just half a mile away, a black Peugeot 206 parked on a driveway in Trebble Road was targeted between 10pm and 10am.

The owner came out of his house to see the paintwork bubbled and blistered after a substance had been poured over the roof and bonnet, causing £1,000 of damage.

A blue metallic Audi Q5 parked on a nearby driveway in the same road was also vandalised, with the paintwork bubbled and a line melted through the spoiler. The damage to that is thought to be more than £4,000.

PC Danea Charleston, from Kent Police, said: "Causing this sort of damage is malicious and mean-spirited, and has cost these owners thousands of pounds in repair.

"I am appealing for anybody who may have seen someone acting suspiciously or who has any information whatsoever about any of these incidents to come forward."

Witnesses are asked to phone PC Charleston on 01474 366601 or Kent Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
