Commonwealth champion does Gravesend proud

Lisa Fenton will never forget her 50th birthday, not because of reaching the milestone age, but rather due to her daughter walking away with a gold medal in gymnastics at the Commonwealth games.

Along with husband, Trevor, 52, and daughter, Lili-Ella, 11, Lisa woke bright and early this morning to watch Georgia Mae Fenton, 17, all of whom are from Bartlett Road, Gravesend, win gold in the uneven bar event.

Lisa, who has travelled across the UK taking Georgia to training and competitions, said: “We are absolutely elated.

“I’m so happy for her.

“I don’t think I have come across anyone who is so driven as here.

“I was nervous, I’m always nervous.

“I prefer to watch it at home rather than being there.

“She rung after winning gold and the first thing she said was happy birthday.

“She made a promise to bring gold home."

Some of the competitions the gymnast has taken part in consist of the 2017 World Championships in Montera, Canada, the 2017 World Cup in Bulgaria and the 2015 European Youth Olympics in Georgia.
