Car smashes into shopping trolleys at Tesco Gravesend

An elderly couple have escaped uninjured after smashing their car in a bay of shopping trolleys, it has been reported.

Shoppers watched in disbelief as a blue car drove down New Road, Gravesend before mounting the kerb and crashing into a stack of trolleys outside Tesco.

Thankfully, no serious injuries were reported despite the incident occurring near a busy bus station.

Eyewitnesses took to Facebook to describe what they saw. Vicky Palmer said: "It was an old couple and from what [the lady] said to me the car wouldn't stop.

"I think she panicked when she took the corner and saw the bus and accelerate instead of braking, bless her."

She believed the pair were unhurt.

"You know what surprised me today. Loads off people went over.

"I thought to help oh no most to look. Only a couple people helped the couple out of the car. I was one who helped the old man out, and the lovely lady from the coffee shop brought chairs over."

Police also attended the scene, which occurred at 10.57am on Wednesday, September 9.
