The fire happened at 4.40pm at the Northlfeet paper mill on Crete Hall Road

Fire crews tackled a blaze at the Northfleet paper mill yesterday evening.

It happened at 4.40pm at the Crete Hall Road site.

Three fire engines and an aerial appliance were sent to the scene.

The blaze was in a machine on the fourth floor.

The aerial appliance was used to provide access and lighting and a thermal imaging camera to check the roof for fire spread.

A Kent Fire and Rescue spokesman said: "Three fire engines were sent to the scene and managed to bring the flames under control within three hours.

"A large quantity of paper residue was destroyed."
