Ebbsfleet United FC granted planning permission to build hotel at Stonebridge Road stadium

Ebbsfleet United are celebrating second win this week, this time thanks to a council meeting, while some of their fans will lose a few pounds after receiving parking fines.

The club, which has just been promoted to the National League, submitted a planning application to Gravesham council for the next phase of an £8 million plan to transform the Stonebridge Road stadium.

Last night councillors approved the application subject to some conditions.

The proposal for the Plough End includes a stand for 1,750 supporters and an integrated hotel featuring 55 rooms and 24 car parking spaces.

There will also be a restaurant and bar, which could be used on match days.

Work on a new main stand to replace the Liam Daish Stand began in January last year and the club hopes to start the Plough End improvements next month.

Outline planning permission for the whole project has already been granted and the next phase after the Plough End works will be at the Swanscombe End, with details to be confirmed at a later stage.

At last night's regulatory board meeting, members agreed to grant permission subject to the responses of key consultees relating to flood risk issues and the resolution of any remaining highway issues.

They delegated responsibility to the interim services manager to give final permission.

Chairman Cllr Mick Wenban congratulated the club, on behalf of the council, on its recent promotion.

But it has not been all good news for fans – some watching Saturday’s crucial play-off final against Chelmsford City were given fines for parking on the A226, close to the ground.

A Gravesham council spokesman confirmed a number of parking tickets were issued on the designated clearway – which prohibits stopping and/or parking at any time – following complaints by residents and police.

Club secretary Peter Danzey said home and away fans are advised they are likely to receive parking tickets if they park on the clearway. There is no on-site parking for fans but about 550 spaces are available at Ebbsfleet International station’s car park C, a five to 10-minute walk away.
