He is fast becoming the canine world’s answer to Lady Gaga.

So photographed is Frankie the Jack Russell since he boarded a train alone to London that his owners have been recognised on holiday and stopped in the street, while CCTV footage of his escapade has attracted thousands upon thousands of hits online.

He’s also being lined up for an appearance on television show This Morning.

The travelling terrier has also been centre spread in a national newspaper and had magazine companies looking for his paw print on an exclusive story.

Owner Jane Abbott said she never imagined the attention the family and her six-year-old pet would receive when she first contacted the Messenger with news of Frankie’s surprise journey.

She explained: “I wasn’t even sure you would want the story.

“I joked about the CCTV footage being a YouTube sensation and now that’s happened.”

Frankie boarded the early morning high speed service to St Pancras after escaping from the family home in Porchfield Close, Gravesend, last month and making his own way to Gravesend station.

Since news of his outing was broadcast Ms Abbott, a childminder, says she has had thousands of messages all wanting to know more about Frankie.

She said: “We just thought it would make the local news but he’s been in the Telegraph, The Times, in the Mail and a page spread in The Sun.”

The family were even recognised abroad by a French woman who had read the story on her iPad.

Someone else has modified the original CCTV footage to appear like an old black and white silent movie on YouTube and one clip has attracted more than 22,000 hits.

Despite all the attention, Frankie is yet to earn his keep, or pay back his owners the £59 in train tickets it cost them to collect him.

A spokesman for SouthEastern said: “We were pleased to be able to look after Frankie after he escaped from his home and reunite him with his owners.”

Sadly, they won’t be refunding the £59 fare as they said it would be unfair to other passengers.
