End in sight for huge gasworks pipe project in Gravesend town centre

The final stage of a gas mains replacement project in Gravesend town centre is set to last almost two months.

Gas company SGN began work in King Street at the start of this week and the road will be closed for seven weeks between the junctions with Queen Street and Windmill Street, while engineers replace metal gas mains with plastic pipe.

The work, part of a £192,000 project, will begin in Milton Road at its junction with Parrock Street and King Street and then continue into King Street.

A lane closure will be in place in Milton Road for the duration of the work and temporary traffic lights will be installed to ensure the safety of motorists using the one-way system.

Lynne Edwardson, a spokesman for gas distribution company SGN, said: “We are sorry for any inconvenience our work causes and would like to thank road users for their patience while we complete our essential work.”

Previous work lead to long delays for motorists.
