Communities came together across the UK last week to mark Inter Faith Week, which was well represented in Gravesham.

Kent Equality Cohesion Council (KECC), Gravesham council, The Grand and the police joined forces to organise a trip to the Muslim Cultural Centre in Albion Terrace, allowing 30 attendees of different faiths to enjoy a tour and learn about the history of the Muslim community in the borough and the guiding principals of Islam.

There were also visits to Saint George’s Church in Church Street, St John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Parrock Street, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Pelham Road and the Gurdwara (Sikh temple).

Gurvinder Sandher, KECC chief executive, said “I believe events like Inter Faith Week are very important in terms of promoting cohesion and understanding between different communities and faith groups.

“I am really pleased that working with partners we have managed to get a wide range of different places of worship involved and hope we can build upon this platform and encourage more interfaith work across the borough.”
