Community project to help Gravesend's homeless find shelter has come to an end

A project to help the homeless find shelter during the winter months has come to an end.

Since December, a team of 150 volunteers from Gravesend Methodist Church ran Sanctuary, giving rough sleepers access to overnight care, meals, clean clothes and showers.

It closed on April 1 having given many of its sheltered people the chance to find housing and work opportunities.

Glen Selves (33) was one of those who used the shelter.

Sanctuary is thought to have prevented a total of 657 nights spent sleeping rough and provided just shy of 1,600 hot meals..

The programme’s work was funded by donations, which are still being accepted before it starts up again just before Christmas.
