World famous DJ Pete Tong, who travels the globe entertaining clubbers, has pledged his support to a charity close to home.

The dance DJ, who was born in Hartley, has agreed to become a celebrity ambassador for EllenorLions Hospices.

The charity provides care for people in Dartford, Gravesham and Swanley. It has a hospice in Coldharbour Road, Northfleet, and provides support at home for many more, including younger patients through its chYps service.

Mr Tong started out his career by taking to the decks at soul music club nights in Gravesend and later other towns in Kent in the early 1980s. He went on to enjoy an extremely successful career.

The BBC Radio 1 DJ is still in huge demand to perform to crowds in clubs and festivals across the world, and was soundtrack supervisor for films including Human Traffic, 24 Hour Party People and The Beach.

Rachel Holweger, EllenorLions director of fundraising, said: “We are very excited to have Pete supporting us a celebrity ambassador.

“Because of his local roots, he knows how vital our care is and how important it is for the local community to fund raise for us so that we can continue providing world-leading hospice care to very poorly adults and children in the area.
