Arrest after Greenhithe burglary in which intruder fled from screaming child

A man has been arrested after a burglar was reportedly forced to flee when he entered a young girl's bedroom and accidentally woke her.

The girl's screams startled the intruder, who then ran off.

The child’s father then woke up and found that the front door was open and a number of items were missing including house and car keys.

The incident happened in Marston Court, Greenhithe at around 6.15am on Tuesday, January 2.

A 20-year-old man from Dartford was arrested on suspicion of burglary this morning and remains in police custody.

Police say enquiries are ongoing.
