Jasvinder Singh Dulay, from Gravesend, damaged a Mercedes in family feud with his sister and brother-in-law

A father terrorised his sister and brother-in-law in a long-running family feud, a court heard.

Jasvinder Singh Dulay caused over £5,000 damage to property and cars at Kulvinder Kaur and Atwal Singh’s home in Cambria Crescent, Gravesend.

Dulay, of Clarence Row, Gravesend, admitted two offences of putting a person in fear of violence and one of damaging a Mercedes car.

He was given a 10-month prison sentence suspended for 18 months. A restraining order banned him from going to the victims’ home for two years.

Judge Julian Smith said the 46-year-old father of a disabled son had fallen out with his sister in the most profound way.

“The impact of that dispute has broadened to encompass your family, your mother, your children,” he told Dulay at Maidstone Crown Court.

It began many years ago and came to a head in 2014.

“I am not really interested in why this dispute has reached the stage it has,” said the judge. “It is profoundly sad that the family has reached such a stage of conflict and confrontation that it is utterly unrecoverable.

“I hope I am wrong about that. I hope there will be a way back.”

On May 8, 2014, Dulay and others under his direction caused significant damage to cars and property.

“When I have read about the scale of damage you have caused it is inevitable this offending crosses the custody threshold, notwithstanding your record is so limited.

“But I am impressed with the care and devotion to your sons. You have let them down and let yourself down.

“I do not assume this problem is resolved, but there are qualities in you which are very different from the criminality and crass stupidity demonstrated when you committed these offences.”

Because of Dulay’s financial position the judge did not make a compensation order.

“You have been given a chance,” he said.
