Red Cross called after fire rips through Gravesend flat

The Red Cross were called after a blaze ripped through a flat in Gravesend this morning.

Two fire crews were called to Haynes Road, Gravesend just after 9am to find the occupant outside.

Wearing breathing apparatus, firefighters went inside and extinguished the flames.

Volunteers from The Red Cross were on hand to provide support.

The cause of the blaze, which started in the bedroom, is not known.

Earlier reports that a dog had died in the blaze were circulated in error by Kent Fire and Rescue Service.
