Sainsbury's fails in bid to extend Northfleet opening hours

A supermarket has failed in its bid to extend its opening hours.

Sainsbury's, in Wingfield Bank, Northfleet, wanted to open an hour earlier (7am) and close an hour later (11pm) Monday-Saturday.

The opening hours for the petrol station, the home delivery service and the service yard would have stayed the same.

But Gravesham councillors voted against the application at a planning regulation board meeting last Wednesday.

They judged the alteration to hours would be 'detrimental residents in terms of noise from customers travelling to and from the site and light pollution from the premises and its carpark.'
