BRITISH Transport Police are investigating a tragedy at a Kent railway station.
A woman died when, it is believed, she threw herself in front of a train on the London bound line at Meopham railway station near Gravesend.
She has been named by police as Julie Hedges who lived in Meopham. She was aged 45.
Police said a letter, thought to be a suicide note, had been recovered at the scene.
The incident is not being treating as suspicious. It happened at lunch-time on Saturday causing major disruption on the line. About 30 trains were diverted or cancelled.
South Eastern Trains provided buses between Swanley and Rochester and Sole Street and Meopham to try and keep passengers moving. Services did not return to normal until 7pm.
