Three acres of woodland near Shorne Woods Country Park have been damaged by fire

An area of woodland close to a popular country park has been damaged by fire.

Firefighters were called to land on Brewers Road opposite the entrance to Shorne Woods Country Park just after 1.30pm yesterday.

They worked with the park ranger and used flex packs, beaters and a water shuttle system to tackle the blaze which involved around three acres of trees and undergrowth.

The fire was put out by 2.37pm and crews remained at the scene for another 40 minutes damping down.
