Wrotham’s Motorbase Performance make victorious start to British Touring Car Championship as Dan Cammish celebrates win double at Donington Park

Wrotham-based Motorbase Performance made a flying start to this year’s British Touring Car Championship with a Donington win double.

Dan Cammish, representing the squad’s NAPA Racing team, took wins in races one and three - beating Platt’s Heath’s Jake Hill (Laser Tools Racing) by two seconds in the opener.

Cammish’s NAPA team-mate and three-time BTCC champion Ash Sutton retired from race one after an opening-lap tangle involving Hill and fellow NAPA driver Dan Rowbottom. He was a lap down and out of the top-10 in race two but salvaged third place in race three.

For round two, won by Bristol Street Motors’ Tom Chilton, Hill received a three-place penalty for his role in Sutton’s first-lap, race-one retirement and finished 16th while he was fourth in race three.

The weekend was sweet for Cammish, who finished well down the order in all three races last year.

He said: “Twelve months on from a bit of a shocker, to bounce back with two wins is brilliant.

“Race two was interesting with slicks in the rain - we had a chance, but we had to make a call and I realised I was in a bad place when people pitted under the safety car. I think I was so focused on that race win and should have switched to think about the reverse grid.

“We had a bit of luck with the draw in the end, but we also needed the performance to win it. Really proud of all the guys at NAPA and what a day!”

The next round of the championship is at Brands Hatch on May 6-7.
