Ebbsfleet United manager Garry Hill on the trip to AFC Fylde

Ebbsfleet head north this weekend for their toughest league game since Garry Hill was appointed manager.

They’re off to Lancashire to face an AFC Fylde team looking to make the play-offs for a second season running.

But Fleet haven’t lost a league game since Hill took charge and they travel as the National League’s form team.

The fixture at Mill Farm is their first in 15 days over Christmas and the New Year.

Hill said: “I have no problem with that. We’re no different from any other club.

“There are 15 points on offer over a two-week period and it’s surprising how quickly things can turn round even more and put you in an area, going into the New Year, which you want to be pushing for.

“We’ll be determined because it’s going to be a very tough game up there. AFC Fylde are going well and their home record’s very good but it’s a game we look forward to.

“It’s something like four games in 11 days and even though we’ve got a small squad, we’ll look forward to it and have a go.”

Freddy Moncur was added to the Fleet squad last week although fellow midfielder Jack Payne came off injured during the FA Trophy defeat to Dagenham.

“I’m led to believe he’s not pulled his hamstring,” Hill said. “He felt it tighten up and we got him off straight away.

“There was an opportunity for Dean Rance to come on and have a good run and he needed that – Andy Drury as well.”

Moncur, the son of former West Ham player John, was on trial with Fleet in pre-season and travelled to Portugal with the squad for their training camp.

Club captain Dave Winfield was put through his paces before the Dagenham game as he continues his return to fitness.

Hill said: “That’s the first bit of ball work he’s done, which is encouraging.

“That’s the physio’s domain but he’s been pleased so far with how he’s been progressing over the last couple of weeks.”

Hill insisted it was no consolation that Saturday’s defeat came in the Trophy, not the league.

“I want to win every game,” he said. “I don’t look at it and make any kind of excuses.

“We put a very strong team out on Saturday and we did everything but score.

“You get one and I think you win the game comfortably but it wasn’t to be.

“Even though it’s frustrating, you have to be gracious sometimes when you get beat.

“Of course it hurts but we created enough and their goalkeeper had a great game.

“We have to move on and prepare for next week’s league game.”
