Coastguard and lifeboat called out to rescue two teenagers blown out to sea on lilos

Two teenagers had to be rescued and taken to hospital after they were blown out to sea on lilos.

At around 3pm yesterday (Friday), Herne Bay Coastguard and lifeboat crews were called to the Western Esplanade in Herne Bay.

It was reported two 17-year-olds were around 350 metres out from shore, near to the Heron Angling Club, after they had been swept out to sea on their inflatables.

As the lifeboat arrived on the scene, they had managed to reach their depth and were wading ashore with the help of the coastguard.

They were taken to hospital after ingesting seawater.

The lifeboat recovered one of the lilos and then returned to the station.
